OUTLINE
OF THE MSW COURSE
CURRICULUM FOR THE MSW PROGRAMME
During the first year , students have to undergo instruction in 6
Compulsory and 3 specialization Courses and during the second year,
they have to undergo instruction in 3 compulsory Courses and five
specialization Courses according to the selected specialization.
INFORMATION ABOUT SPECIALIZATIONS
Family
and child welfare
This specialization qualifies graduates to work as social workers
in institutions for women and children, Supervisors of integrated
Child Development Schemes, as Family Counsellors in Family Courts and
in a variety of development programs. The trainees will have to work
with individuals and families in crisis, children in behavior problems
and physically and mentally handicapped children and adults.
Labour
welfare personnel Management and Industrial Relations
This specialization is concerned with human problems and dynamic situations
in the Industry. It is an essential qualification for the post of
Labour Welfare officers under the Factories Act, 1948. Students will
be placed in Industrial organizations for the fieldwork during the
second year of training.
Medical and Psychiatric Social work
This is an essential qualification for employment as Medical and Psychiatric
Social worker s in General Hospitals and Medical Colleges. Students
are placed for fieldwork in general hospitals, mental hospitals, child
guidance clinics, de-addiction centers and social welfare departments
of industries. Only those persons with an aptitude to work with the
sick and willing to acquire knowledge of various physical and mental
health problems may opt for this specialization.
Urban
and Rural Community Development
This specialization equips social work graduates to work as Community
Organizers, Supervisors and Project officers in community based organizations
working with under privileged groups in rural and urban areas. Students
will be placed in both rural and urban settings for fieldwork during
the second year. They will be expected to develop a high level of
motivation and skills to draw peoples participation in community work.
